3 Tips to Make the Most of Your Personal Coaching Sessions, http://www.karen-keller.com
Help your coach help you

When I work with clients in their personal coaching sessions, it’s easy for people to begin looking at me as a friend…and that’s great! But what helps me to help them best is if they look at me like a coach. Now, I’m not the biggest sports fan you’ll ever find, but maybe it’s time to revisit exactly what a coach is and use that to power our five tips.

A coach is a guide. A strategist who helps you use YOUR skills in the BEST was to achieve a certain goal. If you can’t shoot a basket, the coach shooting it for you isn’t going to help.  YOU have to help your coach (yes, it’s a very Jerry Maguire “help me help you” moment). So with that in mind, let look at three ways you can make the most of every personal coaching session and take your results to the next level.

Have a plan for each session. Whether it’s a situation or challenge you want to discuss or a new idea you need help fleshing-out, come to the table understanding what YOU want to get out of each session.

Do your research. Every time your business sees a challenge, do some digging on your own first. You’d be surprised what lurks out on the internet! If you can bring those resources to your session (or even send them to your coach in advance), your session will be much more productive.

Have a Bucket List. If you don’t hold yourself accountable, who will? Your coach can guide you and offer advice, but ultimately you will be the one who decides if things get done or not. Make a list at the end of each session (I like keeping a master list that I use for ALL sessions) and at the beginning of each session, review what you’ve accomplished.

Ready? Set? Go! Your action task for today is to hold yourself accountable for bringing tools to the table at your next personal coaching session. Make a short list of three things that YOU can do to improve your sessions in addition to the ones above. Own your coaching – your coach is only as good as your motivation to put words into action!
