What gets your employees, contractors, or freelancers charged and ready to go? If you don’t know you should find out because the very success of your business could depend on it. And besides, why wouldn’t you want to work with a group of people who are raring to go, bringing you tons of customers, making you huge profits, and eagerly spreading your message?
So what can you do to keep the spark alive? Listen to what motivates them. Here are the top 5 things that motivate your closest allies:
- Doing What They Do Best. If you require employees to do something that is out of their area of expertise, then you will get less than expert results. Always position your contractors or employees so they will deliver every day what they do best. Your results will be phenomenal.
- Knowing They Are Cared For. Who wants to work with someone who doesn’t give a damn? Show your employees that you care about them as a person, as a valued contributor and as someone who always has potential.
- Sharing Their Knowledge and Opinions. It’s important to listen to their opinions and insights as to what can be done better or differently. This is where you foster an environment of shared knowledge and growth.
- Hearing About Their Success. When was the last time you told your employees how well they did? The difference their contribution made? The pride you have in their work? If it’s been more than 4 weeks, you are well overdue. Make a point to share your thoughts on their work, ideas and progress.
- Receiving support. Everyone can and will perform 100% better if they have the materials and support needed to get the job done. This doesn’t only include a computer, phone or fax but the freedom to express their talents and the belief in them to deliver.
Knowing what motivates your employees or contractors is essential to running a successful business, satisfying your customers, and growing profits. If you fail to do this often overlooked step, success will take longer or elude you totally.
