Do you wake up each day with a laundry list of things to do for your business? Your family? I know I do – we’re really not that much different!
One of the most beautiful parts of my day is looking back at the end of it and clearly seeing what I accomplished. The things I helped other people accomplish. It’s like going to school and coming home with a report card filled with A’s every day. Getting things done and having people send you smiles in the process? A complete business win.
But are you missing the boat?
Being generous with our business practices is one of the best efforts we can make, yet we often file it away on the “no time for these things” list. A quick coffee meeting with a friend. Dropping lunch by a colleague’s office when you know they’re busy. Volunteering for a local business organization’s event.
We get so wrapped-up in our “me me me” moments that we seem to forget that it takes a team to run a business. Good business is about giving, because what comes around goes around. You eventually want people to like you enough so that they’ll give their business to you.
See how that works? So to help everyone along the road to being more generous in their business practices, here’s a simple list to get you going:
- Take one new meeting a week.
- Evaluate two current relationships each week.
- Find a way to volunteer your business’ services. NO TRADE!
- Consider taking one evening each week to just work on stuff for YOU so that it doesn’t spill over into your days.
- Ask your colleagues how you can help them.
- Don’t expect something in return every time you do a good turn.
Your Action Task for today is to take at least two things from the list above and make them a part of your routine for the coming week. We all need the reminder to be more generous with our talents and share our gifts. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people did the same for us?
